Are you feeling tired, not recovering the way you used to or just don’t have the energy to do all you want to do? Consider an energy boosting nutrient called vitamin B12.
Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin found in animal products, such as dairy, eggs and meat that plays a vital role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system and is a key component in the formation of red blood cells. B12 helps to produce red blood cells, which are responsible for carrying oxygen to our organs and tissues throughout our body. When we are low in B12, we are low in oxygen. Vitamin B12 deficiency is very common because it requires intrinsic factor which is a substance secreted by the stomach that enables the body to absorb vitamin B12. Inadequate stomach acid inhibits the absorption of B12. Many people have digestive issues that create an environment that makes it difficult to absorb B12. An intramuscular injection can bypass the gut and is readily absorbed resulting in increased utilization of this nutrient and increased energy.
Not all B12 shots are the same. The most active and usable form of B12 is methylcobalamin. Most clinics that offer B12 injections use the cheaper but stable form called cyanocobalamin which is also often used in supplements purchased in drugstores. Cyanocobalamin contains a cyanide molecule that is not found in nature. Your body must convert the cyano- form to the methyl- form to become active and be utilized by the body. Many patients who have gotten a B12 injection of cyanocobalamin report that it did not have a significant effect on their energy. However, many of those patients did notice a change after getting an injection of methylcobalamin. Methylcobalamin passes through the blood brain barrier works directly to assist with energy, metabolism and mood. At Arizona Natural Medicine, we consider quality to be a higher priority than cost. That is why we only use Methylcobalamin in our injections and IVs. Don’t be fooled. Not all B12 shots are alike. Many of our patients who receive B12 injections feel good the same day and enjoy increased energy for a week or more. B12 can also increase our metabolism which in turn supports weight loss. We recommend weekly injections.
Benefits:
Increased energy
Optimize metabolism; key component in weight loss
Vegetarian and vegan diets are often B-12 deficient and may require supplementation.
Safeguard against allergies. B12 stimulates production of TH1 suppressor T cells that down regulate IgE antibody production.
Nerve support. B12 is necessary for the formation of the myelin sheath around nerves.
Protects against heart disease by reducing homocysteine levels. Elevated levels of homocysteine increase cardiovascular risk by increasing atherosclerosis and hardening of the arteries.
Treats anemia. B12 also has an important role in forming new red blood cells and can cause anemia if deficient. Anemia can cause fatigue, shortness of breath, rapid heart rate and weakness.
